Today we picked up a package of donated gifts. One of the kids got a paper from school about signing up for a program that provides gifts to children who's families couldn't otherwise afford to buy gifts. I already told the kids that no matter what they get, they will be expected to write a thank you letter to the group that set this program up. The generosity of strangers is amazing, and I love the small town feeling that everyone here is connected. They really saved Christmas for us this year. It feels a little foreign being a recipient after so many years donating to kids in need. I guess it's a lesson both ways for the kids. Give generously, because you never know when you might be on the receiving end.
We had a wonderful dinner at my parents' house (sweet and sour chicken over rice) followed by a nice game of Cribbage with #3 and my mom.
When we got home I wrapped a few gifts. There won't be much under the tree this year, but at least the kids will have something to open. For that, I am grateful.
I snapped this photo of the ducks hanging out this afternoon.
