Sage has been having issues with her ongoing sinus infection again. She's blowing green boogers and has been eating less lately, losing weight. The vet gave her a long-lasting antibiotic shot. Hopefully she feels better soon.
Henry was tested for FIV and Feline Leukemia to try to explain why he's been so sick. It came back negative. Rather than putting him to sleep, the vet wanted to try one last radical attempt to save him. She sent us home with ten cans of prescription anti-diarrhea food and packets of powdered probiotics. We will give him one more week. Considering there were a couple days in the last week where I wasn't sure he'd survive to the appointment today, there is a real possibility that if this medicated food doesn't work, he could die here at home. The vet has asked us to consider sending his body to the U of M for necropsy and further testing if he dies, because we really don't know why he's so sick. Necropsy will run us another $150 or so, and then we wouldn't be able to have his body to bury him. I'm not sure how I feel about that. Antibiotics didn't cure him, it's not FIV/FeLeuk, it's not intestinal parasites, and it's a chronic issue at this point. If the food solves the problem, he will become a very expensive cat indeed. The cans are only $1.79 each, but if he eats two a day, that's over $100 per month in addition to the regular cat food the other cats are still on. Still, I'd rather spend $100+ per month in food than lose him to a mystery illness.
The last chick from the 4/2 eggs hatched. It's another black chick. That's three black ones and one white with black markings for this round. It looks like one of the 3/31 eggs pipped but I don't know if it pipped and died, or if this is new pipping and a slow bloomer. I'll have to wait and see if it hatches or not. Tomorrow the chicks move to the brooder and the incubator gets cleaned out. Next hatch date isn't until 4/14 (eggs go to the hatching incubator 4/11). That'll give us nearly a week break from having the hatching incubator running.
UPDATE: Late tonight the 3/31 egg hatched but it doesn't look good. It's just laying there, not even trying to get up.
