Before I left the barn, I noticed a pile of dirt near the edge of the wall. When I leaned down to fill it in, I noticed a small movement. A mouse! But he wasn't doing well. He didn't run away, he just huddled there. I bumped him with my phone and he made no effort to protect himself at all. I picked him up by the tail and took him out of the barn. I released him out in the long grass at the edge of the yard. I can only assume he will die soon, either from whatever is wrong with him, or a predator will finish him off. I will have to email the previous owners to ask if they put out poison or something.
Charlotte's last litter also had to be warmed up when they were born scattered around the nest box, but all five survived after the rough start (the K litter).
Penelope is due on the 11th and she has collected hay and started to pull some fur. She is very round currently, but no babies yet for her.
