They were an instant hit. Mitzu loves his turtles. The tank was put on a stand in the living room, set up as the previous owner had them. Some rocks and glass marbles, some flat rocks, one plastic arch to get out of water, a filter, and the light that I bought for them. Sparse, the bare minimum.
Today my mom called me from the pet store. She said the turtles had been lethargic and refusing food. She thought maybe she needed some kind of heater. I talked her (and my brother who was with her) through some options, told her where to look, we discussed a few other turtle-related accessories, and we planned for dinner this evening.
After dinner, my mom and I got busy cleaning out the turtle tank. She scrubbed out their filter, we soaked their meager rocks and baubles in vinegar water, and I scrubbed out their 29 gallon aquarium. Then we added new rocks, put together their new floating dock, added their new submersible tank heater, filled it back up with fresh water, added some more tank decorations, and released the six feeder fish and tiny pleco, replaced the filter and the basking lamp, and watched the turtles explore their new environment.
My brother fell asleep before dinner, so my mom was telling me that the turtles have been named Bark and Woof, on account that they are Mitzu's turtles, and Mitzu named them.
