Several hours later when I looked out to see if it was still there, all three birds were gone, but the space where the predator bird had been appears to have open water. I wonder if it was stuck, or if it's just coincidence. The lake is thawing so it wouldn't have been safe for me to walk out that far to check on the bird. I'll keep an eye out for it to see if maybe it flew away and is still in the area.
Sunday the high is only supposed to get to 32, but then it should warm up from there. By the following week the forecast shows highs in the 50's. Though sometimes I think they do that just to keep our hopes up that spring hasn't forgotten us completely.
