But all kidding aside, it was a very nice gift, and warrants being one of the items that will follow us along to the new house when we move.
Happy Valentine's Day! I actually try to avoid celebrating Valentine's Day. I've long believed it to be a holiday made up solely to boost sales for the greeting card, floral, and candy companies between Christmas and Easter. When we were dating, I told Tony that I don't like getting flowers. That may seen odd, but hear me out. You buy cut flowers in a bouquet, give them to a loved one, and they in turn put the bouquet in a vase with water. It looks nice for a couple of days, and then the flowers begin to wilt, the petals fall off, the stems either dry out or start to mold if you aren't changing the vase water. After a week, they go in the trash. You took a beautiful flower, cut it off of the plant, and then watched over time as it wilted and shriveled up. And this is supposed to be a sign of your love for that person? No thanks. And I've had no success in keeping a potted flower alive from February until it's warm enough to survive outside... So live plants are out too. This year, Tony bested me. Last week one of the guys he works with didn't have a ride to work. Tony went in an hour early to be able to pick the other worker up and bring him to work in time for his shift (an hour before Tony's shift was supposed to start). As a thank you for the ride to work, he made a metalwork rose. This flower will never wilt, rot, or fall apart. It's hand crafted, locally made, and quite honestly, it's pretty heavy duty! Honestly, those leaves are sharp. It kept snagging the blanket when I was snapping these photos. I told Tony it could just as easily be a medieval weapon! But all kidding aside, it was a very nice gift, and warrants being one of the items that will follow us along to the new house when we move. Today we also added a new bunny to our herd. Charlotte is a Flemish cross doe. I'm told she is about a year old and has been proven as a breeder. Just to be on the safe side, I'd put her in a hutch with a nest area and will wait to see if she has any babies (I have no idea if she's been exposed to a buck or not). She's the first rabbit I've bought that has been on a drastically different diet, so it will be interesting to see how she transitions (from soaked oats to pellets). Perhaps we will consider moving off of pellets to go to something else in the future. More research is needed. It was just above freezing today, and with windchill calculated it felt like 23 degrees. The wind was whipping pretty hard. Of course #5 wanted to play outside, so we did. He tried the tricycle, but it didn't want to go very well through the snow. He checked out the old van, still parked where we left it before the first big snow. Then he took to the playset, climbing the rock wall in his full winter gear - snowpants, boots, and fluffy coat! He went down the slide, I pushed him on the swing, and while he was busy pretending to drive to Costco, I did a few small chores around the yard. There's still a lot more work to be done. I was down and out last fall so it just didn't get done before the snow flew. That makes for extra work come spring. But it'll be nice to get it cleaned up before we move. At least the neighbors might appreciate it when we're gone.
