I did manage to post little Peg-Leg Sue to a local Facebook group. She will be three weeks old tomorrow and now that she's figured out how to stand up on her one good leg and hobble around almost as fast as the other ducklings, I know her quality of life won't be an issue. She's a happy duckling, she just isn't cut out for free-range outdoor life. Much to my amazement, in six hours I got over 20 comments. Maybe there's hope for finding an indoor home for her yet.
The last duck egg finally hatched last night. I saw it struggling around in the incubator, fresh from the shell last night just before I headed off to bed. I figured by today it should be dry and I can move the babies to the brooder and be done with the incubator. This morning the new duckling had passed away, still sopping wet. I'm not sure what went wrong. The last three ducklings were moved to the brooder.
I also have two more potato towers built and ready to plant, so I will be putting in the Magic Molly and Pinto Gold potatoes as soon as I can haul compost to the towers (by bucket, since I broke the wheel barrow yesterday).
Tomorrow is one of Tony's 12-hour shifts (he has one or two of them per week), which means I'm going to be largely on my own. I hope the kids can be a little more self-sufficient or at the very least, self-entertaining tomorrow. Being grounded from electronics is no fun on rainy days, but tomorrow is supposed to be 74 and "mostly sunny" so maybe outside games will get them off each other's nerves and out of my hair long enough for me to play in some dirt for a little while.
