I also made a deal with someone to trade out five rabbits for five new ducks on Sunday. I'm looking forward to this. The new ducks will include a white runner drake, a silver appleyard drake, a mystery black drake, a mallard hen, and a white pekin hen. How interesting that all five are varieties we don't currently have in our flock.
I got the first two squares of the crochet quilt done today. At 4" x 4" each, I need about 481 more. Seriously... 84" x 90" is the suggested size for a quilt for a full size bed, which breaks down to 20 x 23 squares that each measure 4" x 4" or 483 squares. This is a huge project, but I'm going to be so proud of myself when I have a gorgeous warm handmade quilt to show for it.
It occurred to me recently that all of our named chickens are roosters, except the color-named cochins (Buff, Blue, and Black), and Betty White. Betty White hatched out of the eggs we bought locally from one of #1's friends. She hatched yellow with black spots and now is white with random black flecks. She has a bit of a feather poof on her head and bright orange eyes with green ears. She's unique in appearance, that's for sure! She also has tiny feathers on her feet. And today I learned that Betty White does not like to be held. I did manage to get this nice photo of her though.
