This morning I worked on winter sowing in water bottles again, planting Early Jersey Wakefield Cabbage, Chinese Yellow Cabbage, Golden Acre Cabbage, Red Giant Mustard, Florida Broadleaf Mustard, Southern Giant Curled Mustard, and Tendergreen Spinach Mustard Greens. This evening I continued winter sowing with the bigger containers. A big thank you to my friend Irene for the three clear containers on the left - they are actually nicer than the milk and orange juice containers I've been saving myself. Thin enough to cut with scissors and thick enough to hold their form. Thank you Irene! This round I sowed Rosemary, Vates Non-Heading Collards, Georgia Southern Collards, Champion Collards, Red Russian Kale, American Spinach, Baby Leaf Spinach, Bloomsdale Long Standing Spinach, Giant Noble Spinach, and a generic (unknown variety) Spinach. Wow! Seventeen containers in a day! It broke above freezing today. We made it to 35-degrees. The ten day forecast shows all above-freezing high temps, but just one of the lows is (just barely) above freezing. Could it be that spring might be coming? I'm a little worried that some of these will start to germinate in this warm spell only to die again when we inevitably freeze again within the next month or two. It's not unheard of to get snow in May. I guess all I can do is hope for the best and wait to see what happens. Mabel decided she was unhappy with the location of her nest box, so we put a second box in the living room and she moved the Vikings in right away. Happy housewarming kitties! Lagertha continues to get darker and darker. She is growing faster than Floki.
