Tonight Tony made us a lovely meal of chicken and mushrooms on the grill. Unfortunately we ran out of gas for the grill and had to finish the chicken in a pan on the stove top, but it was delicious and it was a good meal to share with the family.
I'm still hoping to get in (a lot) more winter sowing, despite the fact that it's starting to warm up outside. My biggest delay lately has been #5, who has been either exceptionally needy, or exceptionally destructive.
I still haven't made up my mind about the auction this weekend. I am leaning more towards it though as I promised #3 I'd take her to an auction and she wants to go. That would leave Tony to watch #5 and give me a full day out of the house. That alone might be worth the seating fee and long drive.
Oh! Yesterday Tony picked up two more fruit trees for me. We now have a North Star Cherry and a Contender Peach. We already have one Contender peach from last year (the other never came out of dormancy), so they'll be able to pollinate each other. I tried to buy this cherry tree last year and it came as a dead stick that never took root. This one is a good sized plant already with new growth already showing. It can cross with the Nanking Cherry we already have. I just need to keep the birds out of them until everything thaws enough to plant them! I still want to track down a couple pear trees and maybe some nectarine trees if I can find them. Then I can focus on getting some nut production going (hazelnuts and almonds). Our orchard should be looking quite nice in a few more years!
