This seems to be an ongoing issue with all of Mabel's kittens, so she will be retiring from breeding effective immediately. She will be spayed at the next available time I can get her in. This will be her third litter with catastrophic losses. I can't bear to hold another dying kitten because Mabel refused to take proper care of them. I've bottle fed before, and it's one thing to bottle feed an orphan, but it's that much harder when you have the mom cat right there, demanding her kitten back, but refusing to take care of it. I refuse to endure this again. No more kittens will be born to Mabel ever again. She will likely be up for adoption at some point later this year.
As for Mippey, I'm not sure if she will make it. I've been holding her all day to keep her warm, only returning her to Mabel when Mabel gets in the nest box. I bought a bottle and attempted to bottle feed her this morning, but she didn't seem interested. I did get some food into her, but she was weak and listless. I'm very worried about her. She's a little perkier this evening, but still dehydrated and not where she should be. I will continue to hand-raise her from this point on.
