Today I also got one of the two trellises up and marked off the square foot pattern for the raised bed up front. I'm hoping to get it all planted and the second trellis put up tomorrow. The pumpkins and watermelons are already growing in the winter sown containers ready for transplant. The beans, peas, and cucumbers will be directly sown, as will the corn. I still need to find rosemary and basil plants. I did attempt them by seed, but none of the winter sown rosemary, and only one of the winter sown basil actually came up and stayed up. Tony picked up more Oregano seeds, since those didn't come up either. I'm still trying to find more Summer Savory and Marjoram seeds. I guess I'll just have to make-do with the seeds I have on hand for now.
Our much anticipated "Rare Treat" iris bloomed today. The second one looks like it should bloom tomorrow. What a beautiful reminder of our lost kittens! I also wanted to show off Floki's odd eyes. Her blue eye is the same shade as Henry's eyes, while her green eye is not as bright of a green as Mabel's eyes. Floki is finally looking like a plump energetic kitten. She plays, naps, and acts like a normal kitten and I am no longer so concerned about her health - she's doing great! She's still much smaller than a kitten her age (15 weeks old today), but both her parents are small too. The Beaver Early strawberry plant wins the award for first official harvest of the season with a .63 oz strawberry (and another one ready to pick tomorrow). I think it's safe to officially announce that I believe Mocha is indeed pregnant. She is starting to "pink up" now. Kittens should arrive around July 20th.
