While I can't attest to the success yet as we have not started any logs (this will be a first for us), Sow True Seed had these out to us very quickly and even sent some free Brussels sprouts seeds along! If anyone is looking for mushroom spore plugs, they have different kinds available and send a handy sheet on how to inoculate logs too.
We got the shiitake mushroom plugs we ordered from Sow True Seed in the mail yesterday. I plan to inoculate some logs when we're moved into the new house. According to the paperwork that came with it, the logs can produce mushrooms for several years after they are started. That's neat. Mushrooms are a good source of protein. They're great added into salads and stir-fry, and I like to add them to my soups and stews too. If anyone is looking for mushroom spore plugs, they have different kinds available and send a handy sheet on how to inoculate logs too. We had a nice harvest of black raspberries today, and #3 and #4 were finding several four leaf clovers in the yard. The berries growing in the back yard are slightly smaller, more seedy, and have a stronger flavor. The ones up front are slightly larger, have a lot fewer seeds, but have a very mild flavor (more sweet than berry flavored). The lost kit from Caduci Mook's litter didn't survive the night. Being out of the nest for a day was too much. These babies are so fragile. I tend to forget that when they're big breeds - Elizabeth's ten kits are tiny by comparison to Caduci's kits, so there seems to be a disconnect assuming they're somehow stronger or more able to withstand stress. Miss Caduci's nest now has two spotted and one dark kit left. So far no losses from the other litters.
