We made a trip to Costco today but we didn't get any boxes for the cats as they had just gone through their bins and taken them to the box crusher in back. Poor timing on our part.
My mom invited me to something Saturday. I'm not entirely sure what it is, but it sounds like a group of home-based business people get together to show off their stuff. Like Pampered Chef and Scentsy and those types of things. I don't have any money to spend, but it'll be a nice escape for a couple of hours away from kids. I was just telling Tony I needed a day off and then this came up. :) Ask and ye shall receive.
Lately I've thought I was going crazy. I keep hearing noises in the walls. This started a week or two ago with an odd thump I heard while in the bathroom. I assumed it was one of the girls kicking the wall in their sleep (the wall is shared between the bathroom and their bedroom). I've continued to hear the same thump in the same wall a few more times, once when the girls weren't home. Well, as some of you may know, our house sometimes has strange occurrences, so that's what I chalked this up to. Last night I was listening to music on my headphones and I heard a very loud POP noise, and for a moment I thought perhaps my neighbor had fired a gun. But I had my headphones on so I told myself maybe I was imagining things. This evening, with all three girls in bed, I heard it again. Loud enough to startle me. I hollered down the hallway to #1 and asked her if she'd heard it too. She replied that she had and it sounded like it had come from the boys' room (on the other side of the bathroom). In the living room it sounded like it came from my room (across from the bathroom). I asked Tony about it, but he had been in the basement and hadn't heard a thing. Now, as I'm typing this, with all the kids in bed, husband fast asleep, I heard it yet again. I am afraid the roof supports are cracking up there beyond the ceiling. This time it sounded like it came from the dining room area. What is going on here?? I'm going to see if Tony can get up into the crawl space up there to see if he can see anything out of place. Not that we could do much if there was an issue. I just don't want the roof to cave in or something. There is no snow or ice build up on the roof to be weighing it down, no trees close enough to have fallen onto the roof, and despite a couple days of some pretty severe wind, the split tree in the back is still standing, so I doubt that could cause issues with the house stability. Our home was built in the 1950's so it's definitely "settled" already, and all of the heat vents are on floor level, so no vents or ducts or anything up in the ceiling. How very strange. The only thing I can equate the noise to is last year when the sound of the wood beam cracking woke me up as a neighbor's garage burned to the ground. It sounds like that, but it's coming from above the ceiling. I'm trying not to be a worry wart.
