After the fourth I sat in the grass watching the two quarantine cages. Waiting for someone to sneeze. There were eleven bunnies left in the two cages. I waited, and I watched. Some of them climbed up to greet me through the cage bars. I refilled the cages with grass and clover leaves. They went about grazing again. After a while I noticed one that hadn't sneezed yet while I was watching today, but it was thin and stayed back from the others in the cage, nibbling grass in the opposite corner. I decided this would be my last cull for the day. Sure enough, nasty white lungs. She had snuffles too. They all got into the quarantine cages because they'd been sneezing or had snotty paws (a sign of snuffles). It helped to see that they were all confirmed cases, no mistaken identity. On the plus side, only the first bunny (the only buck I culled today) had coccidia. I suspect it may be limited to the buck grow out pen. The only bunny I've found to have diarrhea was the last one I culled today - the thin one - though she did not have spots on her liver to indicate coccidia.
Five bunnies died today. That leaves five bucks and five does in the grow-out quarantine cages. None sneezed today while we sat outside enjoying the breeze. The seven bunnies in the original grow out pens (three does and four bucks) seem to be doing well. I heard one sneeze today while I was doing chores, but I'm not sure who it was or if it was a sick sneeze or a "I got water up my nose" sneeze. I will pay closer attention tomorrow while I'm out there sanitizing more stuff.
We now have 20 feet and five tails that I need to get into alcohol solution to preserve. I also have to clear the dinner table, put away left overs, and start the dryer to make sure laundry is done by morning. Kids want me to make another batch of apple butter and another loaf of bread tomorrow. I'm not sure if I can fit that in with bunny chores taking up so much time, but I'll give it a shot. For right now, I'm incredibly tired and still have some chores to do before bed. So goodnight my internet friends. I'm exhausted and in need of rest.
