I spent most of today researching the breeds they've got listed as available to ship 4/2 to get an idea of what might be coming. There are 59 regular chicken breeds, 39 bantam varieties, 8 duck breeds, and two turkey breeds shipping that day, and we could get a mix of any of them (we bought the mystery box). It looks like it could be an interesting assortment. There's a few I'm really hoping for, but so many look almost the same it'll be hard to tell some of the breeds apart, even when they grow up and get feathers.
I've read the hatchery guide, twice, and watched their care video, twice. I applied to join an identification group on Facebook. I re-checked temperatures in the brooder again today. Everything is set and ready for babies. I just need to fill the feeders and add water when they arrive.
This evening my husband got word that he's the top choice for a promotion to another department in the same store. They sign the paperwork to make it official tomorrow and he's set to move over to become manager of the new department on Monday! It comes with a bigger annual bonus, but means he loses the commissions he's been getting on some of his big sales at the department he's been assistant manager of for the past couple of years. He says it's a good move, and he's happy to be promoted, so I'm happy for him.
All together, it's been a great day!
