But yesterday wasn't all sadness. We brought home a new bunny. Hazel was a class pet for a while before going home with a student for a year. When the family lost interest, they reached out to me and asked if I'd take her. Well of course I would! She's adorable, and just what we needed to ease our heartache.
Today I finally got some time to work on an art project. We had saved some glass Coke bottles from Costco (the good kind from Mexico with real sugar). I had intended to try to turn them into hummingbird feeders. We picked up the wire a while ago, and last week I ordered the tube plugs for the bottom. This week Tony brought home some paint. I got two painted today. They'll have to be sprayed with a weather-proof coating and I'll have to bend the wire around an unpainted bottle (so I don't scratch the paint) to get everything set. Once they're done I will share photos. I'm not much of an artist, but they turned out pretty cute I think. I want to do another one with more bold colors and less background color.
Today I decided to candle the eggs in the incubator. Some have been in there for 13 days now. I was sorely disappointed at first. Of the 20-or-so in there, I found life in just 5-6. Worse yet, I found a bad egg, stuck to the egg turner. In attempting to get it out, I broke it. Oh the smell! I sanitized the incubator and the egg turner and got the incubator re-assembled. Not fun. A rotten egg that's been at 100-degrees for 13 days. I don't recommend it to anyone.
