I received PI616854 Emily on 7/22/14. It is supposed to be an early strawberry with well displayed fruit, suggested for use with pick-your-own farmers. I'm excited to see how it performs here in Minnesota.
Unfortunately, this variety wilted, dried up, and died almost immediately. Perhaps it was the August heat? Either way, the ID band is attached to a dead root. I am leaving it over winter in the hopes that perhaps it set roots.
On Tuesday, June 9, 2015, I took the following photo. It appears that Emily was able to set roots and come back again this year. This is currently the smallest and weakest of the three Research varieties I have planted.
