I finally got a hold of some sisal rope and managed to crochet a row onto one of the little dish clothes I've been making. Tomorrow we will test it out. The idea is to give one edge that is "scratchy" in case you need to scrape off stuck on stuff. I suppose I could just make one completely from sisal and offer it separately or in a package deal, but sisal isn't a nice material to work with, so I'd rather just put one row on the cloth if it works well in testing.
Another weekend spent dog sitting at my parents' house. School will soon be starting. My parents' apple trees have produced an abundance and they've been gifting me bags and bags of apples. Tomorrow I plan to set up the crock pot and start our first round of apple butter cooking. I'll be running the dehydrator too with apple slices to be used as after school snacks later in the school year. The house will smell delightful, our cupboards will start to fill in, and we won't have to run the heater at night this week when we are supposed to be dipping into the low 50's to mid 40's (brrr). We had a nice storm early this morning. It's supposed to be the first of many. It should be pretty rainy the next couple of weeks. I've got plenty of indoor projects that can keep me busy, so I'm not terribly worried about it. Hopefully Tony has time to put in the new treated wood to fix the bunny barn, cut a few more boards to increase the potato beds one more time, and finish any other outdoor projects before it gets too cold. I just hope we aren't too burnt out on processing apples by the time our tree starts dropping them! With any luck we should have enough apple butter to last us until next apple season. I will be hot bath canning this time to preserve them longer this year.
