I had hoped to make a ham and potato stew for dinner tonight, but I put it off too long. I didn't get the frozen ham bone into the pot to boil until 2:30, so I guess it'll be dinner tomorrow. I'll leave it to simmer overnight and then add some potatoes and onions tomorrow. I still don't have any carrots, and we're out of canned mushrooms, but I have some canned beans that I can add in at the end of the cooking to add some more nutrition. It smells delicious! I added some rosemary, garlic powder, sage, and thyme to the water. I planted four Prizehead Lettuce seeds today under the grow lights. With any luck I'll get two or three plants and be able to transplant one to the aquaponic betta bowl with Sparkle (our current male betta). I'm excited for homegrown organic salad while I wait for the snow to thaw outside. Tony found a recipe online for chicken and rice that could be made in one dish, so that's what we went for tonight for dinner. After dinner, #4 said "It smelled better than it tasted..." Turns out she was smelling tomorrow's dinner... Yeah, that smells like ham, so if I was anticipating ham and got chicken, I think I'd be a little off too. But really, dinner was delicious, albeit plain looking. I think he did a great job of using what we had available, and it fed all of us with no leftovers. I love that my husband can (and does) cook.
