I have noticed that both varieties of okra that came up (Alabama Red and Star of David) don't appear to be there anymore. I'm not sure what happened as the temp hasn't gone below freezing since I checked them last. There are still more seeds in each container, so hopefully I'll see more come up if I wait longer.
I also direct seeded some Rattlesnake beans, Turkey Craw beans, and Mammoth Melting Snow Peas outside. The Rattlesnake bean seeds are planted beside the front steps. I'm hoping they will grow up the side railing beside the black raspberries. If nothing else, they may provide nicer soil for the berries. The other two are planted on the trellis part outside the kitchen door. They should provide a nice sun shade and wind break as well as pretty flowers and a convenient fresh snack on the go. So far no seedlings, but with rain and warm weather in the forecast, I anticipate I'll be seeing them soon.
In family news, little #5 is not even 18 months yet and he has figured out how to climb the rock wall on the kids' play set.
I also finally got my peppers planted and out the door. This year the pepper line up will be Pequin, Chocolate Bell, Purple Beauty Bell, Midnight Dreams Bell, Hungarian Banana, Black Hungarian, Lipstick, Rong-O-Fire Cayenne, Medusa, Bolivian Rainbow Chile, and Anaheim. Plus the pointed and double bells I already put outside. Grand total of 13 varieties from mild to very hot.
And a reminder to anyone who wasn't aware. Today (the first Saturday in May) is World Naked Gardening Day. Mark it on your calendar for next year!
