Today marks the very first day we've gotten two eggs in one day! Now if I could just get Henrietta to start laying too.
I discovered today that the chicken coop litter is not the broken black doe's kits. They belong to one of the dutch cross does. Not Lady Moe, the other one. I never got to naming her, but I figure she needs a name now instead of being "the chicken coop litter's mom." #1 has decided she should be called "Mother of Ruins" after a Magic Card, and then all of her kits should be named after ancient ruins (like the Parthenon, Machu Picchu, and Babylon). Sure, why not. Seems like a creative idea. And if it gets kids to look up ancient ruins to come up with names, maybe it can be educational too.
I did find the remains of the missing kit, and yes, the chickens got it. The remaining kits are safe and warm, snuggled up in their nest buried deep in bedding in the tote, now well secured to prevent tipping.
